With the greater purpose of raising awareness about the need to preserve a world that is becoming extinct, Sofia Saldanha transports us through her art, her gaze, and her lenses to the four corners of the world. On this journey, she records for posterity the diversity of people and ancestral cultures that still survive today.
Born in 1966, Sofia grew up in an environment that mixed her mother’s penchant for the arts with her father’s enormous love of photography. She graduated in Interior Architecture from the Ricardo Espirito Santo Silva Foundation in 1991, following a series of works in this field and in the area of decorative painting.
With her four children raised and already pursuing their own projects, it was in 2013 that Sofia felt the time had come to delve deeper into the art that has always fascinated her. She then embarked on a demanding journey of learning and training, in the constant pursuit of improving her vision and photographic skills.
It is a huge privilege for Sofia to meet and photograph the people who cross her path, enriching her life and her perspective. Whenever possible, Sofia likes to return to the same places, to see the people she photographed, call them by name, and deliver printed portraits to them.
